About Our Founder: Lindsay McAllister aka MsLindsayM
Lindsay McAllister is the passionate and dedicated founder and owner of Laluxe Femme, Prince Edward County’s only exclusively plus size sustainable clothing boutique. Her journey is marked by a lifelong commitment to activism, advocacy, and empowering marginalized communities.
Early Activism and Education
Lindsay’s activism began in elementary school and continued throughout high school. She pursued her passion for understanding human behavior by studying psychology at Queen’s University. Lindsay furthered her education by graduating from the Assaulted Women’s & Children’s Counsellor & Advocate program at George Brown College (GBC).
Professional Advocacy and Career
Lindsay’s professional journey is as diverse as it is impactful. While working as a straight size model and model booker, she ran a safety program for Toronto fashion models after surviving a sexual assault on the set of a photo shoot. This experience highlighted her commitment to the well-being of others. As a survivor of an eating disorder, Lindsay turned her experience into strength, advocating for body positivity and self-acceptance.
Her career in advocacy continued as she served as a Program Manager for Women’s Shelters & Second Stage Housing for four years and as the Executive Director for a charity for seven years. During this time, she wrote the original trans inclusion policy for shelters in northern Ontario and was instrumental in organizing the first Pride Parade and events in Timmins, where she also served as Grand Marshall. Lindsay’s leadership extended to the Ontario Association of Interval & Transitional Houses, where she served on the Board of Directors for two years.
Plus Size Fashion and Entrepreneurship
Lindsay’s journey into the world of plus size fashion began in 2015 when she started creating photo and video content as a plus size fashion blogger. Diagnosed as autistic with ADHD, Lindsay has used her platform to promote inclusivity and representation in the fashion industry.
In December 2022, Lindsay opened Laluxe Femme in Wellington, Ontario, the first and only plus size sustainable boutique in Canada. Her boutique offers sizes XL to 4X and beyond, filling a significant gap in the market for quality, ethically made plus size clothing. Lindsay’s vision for Laluxe Femme extends beyond fashion; she hosts exclusive events for plus size individuals, fostering a supportive and inclusive community.
Recognition and Awards
Lindsay’s innovative approach to business and her dedication to inclusivity have not gone unnoticed. In 2023, she won the Business Excellence award for innovative new business, a testament to her impact and success.
Lindsay McAllister’s journey is one of resilience, advocacy, and empowerment. Through Laluxe Femme, she continues to make strides in the fashion industry, ensuring that plus size individuals have access to stylish, sustainable, and ethically made clothing while promoting body positivity and self-acceptance.
